“Pharaoh’s Horses”

The original painting of this classic work by British painter John Frederick Herring (1795–1865) was made in 1848. Herring had a reputation as the “coachman-painter.” For thirty-three successive years, he painted the winners of the races at St. Leger. He exhibited at the Royal Academy from 1826.
