Built in 1862 by Mrs.
Mary Ward as a frame house with three stories and
basement, it had two wings with a connecting building.
Brick was added later.
J. A. Gardner opened his first
candy store in this building. Cosmo Mannino had a
wholesale banana business in the back adjoining building.
Early on, the building also served as an overnight
hotel for railroad travelers.
In 2003, the three-story frame
portion was demolished, but the brick structure is
still standing. The current owner is G & R
Excavating & Demolition.
