St. Matthew's R.C. Church

25  ST. MATTHEW’S COMPLEX
Cameron Ave. and W. 11th St.

St. Matthew’s Roman Catholic Church can be seen by looking up 11th St. toward Cameron Ave. Its tall, redstone bell tower and huge, circular stained-glass window can be seen from many parts of Tyrone and from the Route 220 Bypass (Interstate 99). The church has fifty-seven stained-glass windows of different sizes.
The school was built in 1885, the convent shortly thereafter, and the church in 1896.
The church completed Phase I of its long-range restoration project in 2003, in time for its year-long 150th Anniversary Celebration. A time capsule was removed and its contents displayed. On November 15, 2003, various current items were stored in the time capsule.
