We've got questions . . .

Our collection of items, documents, newspapers and photographs are an excellent research tool. We use it almost everyday to respond to questions that come to us from the community, and this often generates a few questions of our own.

Our current research projects include:

We are also engaged in an ongoing effort to build a computerized catalog of all the items in our collection, so we can ask (and answer!) even MORE questions!

. . . And some others may have answers to YOUR research questions!

The headquarters of the Blair County Historical Society is located in the former home of ironmaster Elias Baker -- it's worth a visit there just to see that amazing house! Founded in 1906, BCHS has an extensive collection relating to the people and places of Blair County.

Before there was a Blair County, the Tyrone area was part of Huntingdon County, and before that, Bedford County, so if you're looking for information about the early history of the area, plan to visit our neighbors.

There are also many digital collections available online that often have full-text, searchable and even downloadable copies of historical resources.

PA's Past: Digital Bookshelf offers many books and documents from the libraries of Penn State University related to the history of the Commonwealth; if you're not an archivist or a librarian, you may find it intimidating, but stick with it (use the search features for particular names and topics) -- there are treasures here!

The USGenWeb Archives have thousands of pages of user-submitted documents.

Good luck!
