Originally started as
the Tyrone News Agency at the corner of Pennsylvania
Ave. and 10th St., the business was relocated across
the street. Mark Laird bought the business in 1954 and
relocated it to 24 W. 10th St. (Sims Jewelry) in 1957.
In 1967, he bought the corner building (Aults Grocery)
and combined it into one building. This explains the
step up into the cards and gifts area. The store was
named the MI Gift Shop — for Mark and his wife,
Ingrid.
The current owners, Monika and
Jim Kost, have changed the name of the business to
Monika’s Cards & Gifts.
Earlier, these buildings housed
the Stewart Ice Cream Plant and Parlor.
