Located at 850 Pennsylvania Ave. (in the Tyrone Rail Park), the Tyrone History Museum contains a selection of Tyrone-related artifacts, photographs, and displays. The museum, now in its 10th year, features a time line spanning the 150-plus years of Tyrone's existence along with exhibits that change from time to time. Admission is free.
A current exhibit features items and photographs relating to Tyrone shops and businesses from bygone years. In those days, shopping in Tyrone also was a social time. Many of the items in the exhibit will take you back down Memory Lane.
Recently added to the railroading collection is a bell from PRR G5s steam locomotive No. 1844. The bell was donated to the Society by Mr. & Mrs. Gary E. Long, of Chambersburg, Pa.
PRR G5s Steam Locomotive No. 1844
Nearly 100 of the burly G5s 4-6-0 ten-wheelers were built at the Pennsylvania Railroad's Juniata Shops during the mid-to-late 1920s. As the most powerful 4-6-0s built for the PRR, they saw service as freight haulers in suburban areas.
Museum hours of operation are from 1 to 4 p.m. on Sundays and Wednesdays.
