Opened in November 2002,
the Tyrone History Museum contains a selection of
Tyrone-related artifacts, photographs, and displays. The
museum features a time line spanning the 150-plus years
of Tyrone’s existence along with exhibits that
change from time to time.
The museum is located in the
Tyrone Railroad Station, 850 Pennsylvania Ave. (at the
Tyrone Rail Park).
Hours of operation: The museum is now open for the season on each Sunday and Wednesday from 1 to 4 p.m.
During April, members of the Kiwanis Club of Tyrone have volunteered to serve as docents at the museum.
The current exhibit feature is “Tyrone: Shopping on Memory Lane.” Museum visitors may be surprised to learn that Tyrone had been a prosperous business town, at one time containing fourteen hotels. Others will be reminded of the many shops and storefronts from their childhood.
Three display cabinets are filled with memorabilia from past businesses, many of which are advertising pieces. A display board contains a variety of advertisements of local businesses.
With prices on the rise these days, it’s always fun to take a look back at the cost of items in a former time.
So whether you want to return to a favorite store or visit Tyrone’s past businesses for the first time, everyone is invited to stop by the museum to take a walk — and shop — down memory lane.
