Chartered in 1886, Home
Electric first was located on Blair Ave. In 1893, it
relocated here on So. Logan Ave. The 1½-story
building, 120'×40', had a stone foundation, brick
load-bearing walls, and timber rafters. In 1902, the
Altoona and Logan Valley Electric Railway Co. built a
trolley line from Altoona to Tyrone. In 1910, the
railway company purchased the plant and converted into
a car barn. In the late 1930s, the trolleys were
disbanded.
After several owners, a
trucking firm last used the building as a maintenance
garage. The building, having been scheduled for
demolition in 1990, was purchased in July 1991 and
currently is being converted into an activity
building.
