Burley’s Restaurant

14  BURLEY’S RESTAURANT
954 Pennsylvania Ave.

The name “Burley’s” was given to the restaurant for several reasons. Jacob Burley, great-great-great-grandfather of the owners (Elizabeth L. Hollenbach, executive chef, and Donald H. Hollenbach, manager) was the first settler of Tyrone. His home was located on the site of the old First National Bank Building (also known as the Jones Building), which has been partially torn down and now is being rebuilt as the new home of the Tyrone-Snyder Public Library.
The Burley family has been involved in Tyrone’s business community for a long time. The owners’ grandfather, Richard (Pap Burley), and his brother, Charles (Uncle Charlie), for many years operated a plumbing, sporting goods, toy store, and propane gas business — Burley Bros. — out of the building next door.
Restaurants that were operated previously in the building were BD’s, Wharton’s on the Juniata, and The Deck. Before that, the building housed the D. T. Caldwell business, a Chinese laundry, and the Charles Conrad clothing store.
