Acklin Bldg

8  ACKLIN BUILDING
1057 Pennsylvania Ave.

Isaac Walton established his jewelry business on this site in 1859. In 1860, his wife, Abby, became the first milliner in Tyrone, working in their second-floor apartment. Frank Acklin became Isaac’s partner in 1887. Upon the death of Isaac in 1904, Frank Acklin became sole owner.
In 1964, The Wing Shop purchased and remodeled the building and moved their ladies’ fashion and accessories business here. Noteworthy were the attractive window displays.
Following the closing of the Wing Shop, Columbia Ancillary Services became occupants. It is now a vacant store front. Look for the painted-over “Acklin” name below the right-hand display window.
